Hyundai Exter Powertrain and Fuel Economy: A Compact SUV with Efficient Performance

The Hyundai Exter is a compact SUV that offers a combination of style, performance, and fuel efficiency. In this article, we will delve into the powertrain options available for the Exter and explore its impressive fuel economy ratings. We will also discuss the exterior design, interior features, and main competitors of this exciting vehicle.

Powertrain Specifications

The Exter is equipped with a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers a power output of 83hp and peak torque of 114Nm. This powertrain is shared with other popular Hyundai models such as the Nios, i20, and Venue. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). Additionally, the Exter is available in a CNG variant, which produces 69hp and 95.2Nm of torque, and comes solely with the manual gearbox option.

Fuel Economy Ratings

Hyundai claims impressive fuel economy ratings for the Exter. For the petrol variants with manual transmission, the Exter offers a fuel efficiency of 19.4 kilometers per liter (kpl). With the AMT gearbox, the fuel economy slightly decreases to 19.2 kpl. However, the CNG-equipped Exter provides a significantly superior fuel economy of 27.10 kpl.

Exterior Design

The Exter follows Hyundai’s parametric design language, which is characterized by its textured detailing on the C-pillar, tail-gate garnish, and overtly flared wheel arches. The unique H-pattern LED treatment for the daytime running lamps and tail-lamps adds a distinctive touch. Despite being the smallest SUV in Hyundai’s lineup, the Exter features typical SUV styling cues with its boxy proportions, upright nose, thick body cladding, and prominent front and rear faux skid plates. The Exter’s higher-specification models feature 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and offer the choice of dual-tone color options.. Hyundai offers a range of solid colors, dual-tone options, and interior color choices to suit different preferences.

Interior Features

Inside the Exter, you’ll find a familiar dashboard design that has been carried over from the Nios and Aura models. However, there are notable differences, such as an all-black color scheme instead of the previous gray/black or bronze/black interiors. The Exter also showcases an advanced fully digital instrument cluster equipped with a 4.2-inch Multi-Information Display (MID), reminiscent of the sophisticated Hyundai i20 and Verna models. The patterned effect on the dashboard, door pads, and around the gear lever adds a touch of elegance. Higher variants feature semi-leatherette seat upholstery finished in dual-tone black and olive-green shades. It’s worth mentioning that the Exter lacks an armrest for the rear seats.

Noteworthy Features

Hyundai has equipped the Exter with several noteworthy features that enhance comfort, convenience, and safety. Two segment-first features are a single-pane sunroof, allowing passengers to enjoy the open sky, and a factory-fitted dashcam with dual cameras (front and rear) that records your journeys. Other features include automatic projector headlamps, keyless entry and go, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, wireless charging, in-built navigation, connected car technology, voice-activated commands in multiple languages, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. Safety features include six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill assist control, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), rear parking sensors and camera, three-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats, and ISOFIX anchorages. These safety features come as standard in higher-spec trims and can be optionally added to lower-spec trims.

Main Competitors

The Hyundai Exter competes directly with the Tata Punch, Citroen C3, and Maruti Suzuki Ignis in the compact SUV segment. Additionally, it faces competition from lower variants of the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger in terms of pricing and features.

In conclusion, the Hyundai Exter offers a compelling package with its efficient powertrain options, impressive fuel economy ratings, stylish exterior design, and feature-rich interior. It provides a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience, making it a worthy contender in the competitive compact SUV market.
