Triumph Speed 400 launched at Rs 2.33 lakh

After a week of their global unveiling, one of the bikes from the Triumph 400 series has now made its way to the Indian market. The newly launched Triumph Speed 400 comes with a price tag of Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom, India), while the Scrambler 400 X is expected to be introduced in India at a later date.

Both the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X are equipped with a liquid-cooled, 398cc, single-cylinder engine. This new engine, named the TR-series, generates 40hp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. Paired with a 6-speed gearbox, these British motorcycles offer power output similar to the KTM 390s (which are also manufactured in India by Bajaj), but the Triumph duo deliver their peak performance at lower revs.

Drawing inspiration from their larger counterparts in the Triumph lineup, the design of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X exudes a premium feel despite their affordable price range. Both bikes feature a digi-analogue display and can be optionally equipped with heated grips, a rare feature in this category. The Speed 400 is fitted with 17-inch alloy rims on both front and rear, adorned with MRF Steel Brace rubber (similar to the recently introduced Ultraviolette F77), instead of the premium Metzeler or Pirelli tires showcased in international press shots. Some Speed 400 units were also seen with Apollo Alpha H1 tires, so it remains to be seen which variant will be provided to customers, or if both options will be available. On the other hand, the Scrambler 400 X sports 19/17-inch alloy rims with dual-purpose MRF Zapper Kurve tires.

With a price of Rs 2.33 lakh, the Triumph Speed 400 comfortably undercuts its competitors like the KTM 390 Duke (Rs 2.97 lakh), BMW G 310 R (Rs 2.85 lakh), and RE Interceptor 650 (Rs 3.03 lakh – Rs 3.31 lakh).

Both motorcycles come with a 2-year/unlimited mileage warranty and require service at intervals of 16,000 km. The Speed 400 will be available from late July onwards, while the Scrambler 400 X is scheduled for release in October.

Please note that all prices mentioned are ex-showroom, India.
