USA Independence Day 2023: Celebrating Freedom

The 4th of July marks the 247th Independence Day celebration in the United States. This federal holiday commemorates the historic declaration of Independence and holds great importance for Americans nationwide. The festivities associated with Independence Day include parades, fireworks, carnivals, fairs, picnics, political speeches, games, and ceremonies. It is regarded as the National Day of the United States.

Background of Independence Day of U.S.:

The background of the U.S. Independence Day dates back to the American Revolution when the second continental congress voted for the resolution of Independence. On July 2nd, 1776, the thirteen colonies officially separated from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence was then adopted by the United States on this day, as noted by John Adams, a prominent leader of the American War of Independence and the nation’s second president. In a letter to his wife, he expressed that July 2nd would be celebrated as a grand anniversary festival, calling for pomp, parade, shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illumination throughout the continent, forevermore.

However, the continental congress debated further and ultimately approved the final draft of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, making it the official Independence Day of the United States. Recognizing its significance, Congress passed a bill on June 28th, 1870, to establish Independence Day as a federal holiday. The law was later amended in 1941 to make it a paid holiday for federal employees.

Events led to Independence of U.S.:

The road to U.S. independence was paved by a series of events, including the start of the American Revolution in 1775, followed by the continental congress voting for independence on July 2nd, 1776. Two days later, on July 4th, the final draft of the Declaration of Independence was approved, and the first Independence Day celebration took place on July 4th, 1777.

The celebration of U.S. Independence Day encompasses various traditions and festivities. Fireworks are a hallmark of the day, drawing crowds of people eager to witness the magnificent displays. American flags adorn homes and offices as a symbol of patriotism and pride. Parades featuring bands are an integral part of the celebrations, adding to the festive spirit.

Significance of U.S. Independence Day:

The significance of U.S. Independence Day resonates deeply with all Americans. It serves as a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices made by their forefathers in establishing a nation grounded in principles of equality, freedom, and justice. The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the founding values of the nation and the hard-won freedom that defines the United States.
